Abstract

Ulema were always given a prominent place in the Mughal court of India. They were responsible to fulfill their duties related to Islam and to offer appropriate solutions to the problems that arose in the society. However, many Ulema in the court did not perform their duties properly. If they succeeded in making a place in the court, instead of fulfilling their responsibilities with honesty, they paid more attention to maintaining their positions, getting closer to the king and acting according to his pleasure and satisfaction. They did not properly present the teachings of Islam. Sometimes they twisted and distorted these teachings and sometimes presented them wrongly in such a way that instead of reformation and guidance, they became the cause of misguidance and corruption of kings and masses. But in the same era, we also find right scholars or Ulema-e-Haq who not only guided the kings, governors and people in the best way, but also reformed the errors, temptations and corruption created by Ulema-e-Su, without a care for their own lives, properties and families. In this research paper, a brief review of these Ulema-e-Haq and Ulema-e-Su of the Mughal period has been given in the light of historical facts.
